Which Warmth Level Do You Need?

Warmth Level Bedroom Temperature Choose This If
Summer 22°C and above (72°F+) You sleep hot, or you want down you can use year-round
All Season 19–21°C (66–70°F) You want one duvet for the whole year — our most popular choice
Winter 16–18°C (60–65°F) You sleep cool, or you lower the thermostat overnight
Winter+ Below 16°C (below 60°F) Cold or drafty bedrooms, or genuinely cold sleepers. Available on the Hungarian White Down Duvet at 700+ fill power.

Understanding Fill Power (Loft)

Fill Power What It Means In This Collection
600+ Genuine down performance at an accessible price. Warm and breathable, with a little more fill by weight. White Duck Down, Canadian White Down, White Down & Feather
650+ Larger clusters, noticeably lighter for the same warmth. Hungarian White Down, European White Down
700+ Premium loft. Warmth arrives with very little weight on top of you. Canadian Hutterite, Hungarian, European
800+ The highest loft we offer — a tier the industry usually reserves for goose down. Canadian Hutterite, Hungarian, European

Fill power measures how many cubic inches one ounce of down fills. Higher fill power means the same warmth with less weight — not automatically a warmer duvet. Fill weight and warmth level determine that.

Duck Down Duvet Comforter FAQs

Is duck down as good as goose down?

At the same fill power, yes. Loft measures down quality, not species. A 700 fill power duck down duvet and a 700 fill power goose down duvet insulate identically. Goose clusters are naturally larger, so goose down reaches the very highest lofts more easily — but our Hutterite, Hungarian and European duck down reaches 800+ fill power, a tier most of the industry reserves for goose.

What fill power should I choose?

600+ gives you genuine down warmth at the best value. 650–700+ is the sweet spot for most bedrooms, offering the same warmth with noticeably less weight. 800+ is for sleepers who want maximum warmth with almost nothing on top of them. Higher fill power doesn't mean warmer — it means lighter for the same warmth. Warmth level determines how warm your duvet actually sleeps.

What is Hutterite down?

Hutterite down is raised by Hutterite farming communities in Alberta, where cold winters produce unusually large, dense down clusters. It's prized for exceptional loft, lightweight warmth and durability. Our Canadian Hutterite White Down Duvet is available at 700+ and 800+ fill power in a 400 thread count cotton sateen shell.

Are these duvets made in Canada?

Yes. Every duvet in this collection is filled and finished in our 60,000 sq ft facility in East York, Ontario. Maholi has manufactured bedding in Canada since 1994 and has been a board member of the Down Association of Canada since 1995.

Can I wash a down duvet?

We don't recommend machine washing these duvets. Use a dry cleaner who specialises in down bedding, and spot clean spills with Zero® or Woolite®. Always use a duvet cover — it protects the shell and dramatically extends the life of your duvet. To refresh loft, tumble on a no-heat fluff setting and shake it out.

What's the difference between a duvet and a comforter?

In Canada and the UK a duvet is an unquilted insert designed to be used inside a removable cover. In the US the same product is usually called a comforter or duvet insert. Everything in this collection is a duvet insert and should be used with a cover.
