How to Care for Your Down Duvet: Maintaining its Fluffiness and Freshness

You finally got your dream Maholi Duvet. There’s nothing quite like sinking into a warm and cozy down duvet from us on a cold chilly night. Just note that down duvet can lose their fluffiness and freshness with regular use. So how do you get it back? Proper care and maintenance can go a long way in ensuring your down duvet stays fluffy and fresh for years. We got you covered! In this blog post, we’ll share some fantastic tips and tricks on how to care for your down duvet so you can sleep soundly!

FLUFF YOUR DUVET REGULARLY

Our Canadian-made down duvets are filled with sustainable down. Over time it can get a little lumpy. To prevent this from happening, a good way is to fluff it up in the morning and give it a shake. This helps remedy the down clusters and keep the duvet cloud-like fluffiness. Another great way is to use a dryer on a fluff setting and add a few tennis balls to plump up the down.

Air It Out

Duvets can trap moisture and odours over time, making them less fresh and uninviting. To prevent this, we recommend you hand your duvet outside on a dry day, away from the sun, to air it out. A well-ventilated area will help remove any moisture and odours that may have accumulated. You will thank us later.

Dry Cleaning

We recommend taking our duvet to your nearest dry cleaner specializing in down duvets. There are many across the GTA. We do not recommend throwing your duvet in a washing machine. Period. This will hinder the performance and damage the down clusters.

Spot Cleaning

We recommend spot-cleaning your duvet using Zerolite or Woolite in warm waters if you have little accidents. Do not use bleach.

Use A Duvet Cover

Did you know that a duvet cover protects your hard-earned duvet from stains and wear and helps keep the down evenly distributed. A duvet cover is way easier to wash and maintain than a duvet, so it’s a no-brainer and an excellent investment in the long run.

Store It Properly

During the summer, when the duvet is not in use, store it in a bag to protect it from dust and dirt. All of our duvets come in a duvet bag just for that purpose. Pro tip: Avoid storing it in plastic containers (like Rubbermaid), as it can trap unwanted moisture and damage the down clusters.

We know that investing in a quality duvet from us takes work. A fantastic down duvet is an investment in your sleep comfort, and proper care and maintenance can help prolong its lifespan. Remember to fluff it regularly, air it out, use a duvet cover (lifesaver), spot clean, and store it properly are all critical steps to take in caring for your down duvet. DO NOT machine wash, even with or without detergent. With these Maholi tips, you can enjoy a fluffy, fresh, warm, cozy duvet for years. Pass these tips to your children, family and friends.
