Canadian Hutterite White Down Duvet (800 FP)
Sized for the Bed You Actually Own
Duvet sizing is not standardised in North America. Two duvets both labelled "King" can differ by four inches or more, and that difference shows up as a cold shoulder at three in the morning, or as a duvet cover with a foot of empty fabric hanging off the end.
So rather than ask you to trust the label, here is exactly what you get and exactly how it sits on a standard mattress.

Three Warmth Levels, Not Two
Most Hutterite Duck Down Duvets are sold in two weights. That works if you happen to sit near the middle of the range. If you sleep hot, or you drop the thermostat overnight in a Canadian winter, two options mean picking the one that's least wrong.
We fill this Duvet at three separate weights. Choose by bedroom temperature rather than by season — the temperature you sleep in matters far more than the month on the calendar.

700+ or 800+ Fill Power: Which One
Fill power measures loft, not warmth. One ounce of 800 fill power down expands to fill 800 cubic inches; one ounce of 700 fill power down fills 700. Higher fill power means it takes less down to reach a given warmth — so the duvet is lighter and drapes more softly. It does not, on its own, make a duvet warmer. Warmth level does that.
Both are the same down, from the same Alberta Hutterite colonies, in the same 400 thread count sateen shell, filled in the same facility. The only variable is cluster size.
Choose 700+
If you want genuine premium Hutterite loft at a lower price, or if you like a duvet with a little more physical presence on the bed.
Choose 800+
If you want the lightest possible duvet at your chosen warmth level, or if weight across your chest keeps you awake.
Why We Build This Shell at 400 Thread Count
Thread count is the most misunderstood number in down bedding. It counts threads per square inch of shell fabric. It says nothing about whether that fabric will hold down inside it.
The International Down and Feather Laboratory — the same lab that issues our Responsible Down Standard certificate — measured the relationship across their sample history and found a correlation of 0.015. A perfect relationship would be 1.0. Fabrics at 230 threads pass down-proof testing. Fabrics far above 500 fail it. What actually matters is yarn size, weave density, and calendering.
We build this shell at 400 thread count cotton sateen because it is where three requirements meet. Dense enough to stay down-proof against high-loft clusters. Light enough that 800+ fill power can open to its full height. Soft enough to feel like a sheet rather than a shell.
How It's Built, and Who Checks
Baffle-box construction. Fabric walls sewn between the top and bottom layers create sealed chambers, so the down can loft to full height inside each box and cannot migrate to one end of the duvet over time. Sewn-through quilting is cheaper to produce, but it pinches the fill at every seam and creates a cold line wherever the two layers meet.
DOWNMARK®
Administered by the Down Association of Canada, DOWNMARK® verifies that a down product is finished in Canada with genuine, accurately labelled down. Certification covers fill power, cleanliness and labelling accuracy, is audited through third-party lab testing and mystery shopping, and prohibits live-plucked and foie gras down. Finished imported products do not qualify. Maholi has been a board member of the Down Association of Canada since 1995.

Is this Duck Down or Goose Down?
Duck down. Specifically Canadian Hutterite white duck down, raised by Hutterite farming communities in Alberta. If you prefer goose, we make Hutterite white goose down duvets in a separate collection.
Is Duck Down as good as Goose Down?
At the same fill power, yes. Loft measures down quality; species does not. A 700 fill power duck down duvet and a 700 fill power goose down duvet insulate the same way. Goose clusters are naturally larger, so goose reaches the very highest lofts more easily and most of the industry stops offering duck above 700 fill power. This duvet reaches 800+.
What is Hutterite Down?
Down raised by Hutterite farming communities on the Alberta prairies. Birds live free range to full maturity in a cold climate, which produces unusually large, dense clusters with high loft and long life.
Will the King size fit my King bed?
A standard King mattress is 76" × 80". This duvet is 106" × 90", giving 15 inches of drop on each side and 10 inches past the foot. If your mattress is deeper than 15 inches, or you use a topper, the drop will end at the base of the mattress rather than below it.
Which warmth level should I choose?
Choose by bedroom temperature. Summer for 22°C and above, All Season for 19–21°C, Winter for 16–18°C. Bedroom temperature is a far better guide than season.
Does a higher thread count mean a better Down Duvet?
No. Independent testing by the International Down and Feather Laboratory shows no reliable correlation between thread count and down-proofness — fabrics above 500 thread count fail down-proof testing while fabrics at 230 pass. Yarn size, weave density and calendering determine whether a shell holds down.
Can I wash this Duvet?
We don't recommend machine washing. Use a dry cleaner who specialises in Down Bedding, and spot clean spills with Zero® or Woolite®. Always use a duvet cover — it protects the shell and dramatically extends the life of the Duvet. To refresh loft, tumble on a no-heat fluff setting and shake it out.
How long should it last?
A properly covered and aired Down Duvet lasts decades. This one carries a 30-Year Limited Warranty against manufacturing defects.
